Padiham’s five primary schools have worked together for the first time ever in a campaign to help refugees in Syria.

The idea came from Mrs Kathleen McKeating who is headteacher at St John’s RC Primary after a parent mentioned how moved she was to see families’ suffering.

Mrs McKeating rallied all the schools in the town, St Leonard’s C of E, Padiham Primary, Padiham Green and Hapton Primary, to collect items for the refugees.

Teachers and pupils from each of the schools arrived in convoy at St John’s School on Wednesday armed with boxes and bags of items for the mercy mission.

Mrs McKeating said: “It was absolutely wonderful to see them all arriving and the amount of items they have collected has been overwhelming.

Several local businesses have also made donations to the campaign and everything will be sent to the charity Cal Aid which is responsible for transporting goods over to Calais.

Anyone who would like to make a donation is asked check on the school website www.st-john.lancs.sch.uk.
