A teacher swapped the yellow jersey for a bridal dress when she led a procession of primary school pupils in recreating the Tour de France along the Padiham Greenway.

Padiham Green Primary School teacher Jennifer Morton, who is getting married this summer, shared a tandem bicycle with headteacher Mark Dixon, closely followed by Year 3 and 4 children.

Deputy head Janet Ennis said: “The ride tied in nicely with our study of France and also the First World War.

“The pupils have been learning about local soldiers killed in France during the war and have decorated part of the Greenway with information about their service.

“As a school with close links to the Greenway, we also try to encourage our pupils to cycle or walk safely to school. Hopefully, this event will inspire more of them to do the same.”

Lower year pupils lined the route to cheer on their peers as they cycled past.
