Shuttleworth College have employed a trio of inspirational teachers to help to lead their school to success.
In the Padiham school’s Ofsted last year, they were marked down for leadership but new Head Teacher Ruth England has moved swiftly to ensure they rectify this.
Liz Dempsey has come in as Assistant Head Teacher in Teaching and Learning from the outstanding St Gabriel’s RC School, Bury.
She has a BA Hons Degree in French and Spanish and will be Assistant Head of Languages at Shuttleworth.
“I am really excited about the new challenge,” said Ms Dempsey. “This school is on a definite upward path and it’s great to be part of it.”
Drama teacher Beth Watson has made the switch from Head of Performing Arts at Blessed Trinity RC College, Burnley, to Assistant Head Teacher in Teaching and Learning at Shuttleworth.
“It’s an exciting time to be at Shuttleworth, it is a school with a great vision and I didn’t want to miss this opportunity of leading the school into a new era,” said Mrs Watson.
Deborah Allen is the new Deputy Head at Shuttleworth from Thornton Grammar School, Bradford.
“It’s a superb challenge,” she said. “When I came for the interview, I was impressed by the students, they were all so polite, and I was inspired by the Head Teacher.”
The Shuttleworth Leadership Team will now include the three newcomers, as well as Deputy Head Sally Sagar, Assistant Head Teacher Holly Clarke alongside Craig Parkinson, Hillary Till and Paul Thompson.
“It’s a time of change at the school,” said Mrs England. “Ofsted identified our weaknesses and, since I became Head Teacher in August, we have moved swiftly to turn this around.
“These are three really strong teachers and leaders who have already made an impact here and will take the school forward towards excellence.”
