a NEW nursery has breathed life into an old school in Burnley.

The former Healey Wood School, in Healey Wood Road, had been closed for several years, but was recently bought at auction, and has now been transformed into the private Magical Tree Nurseries.

The nursery, owned and run by Cheryl Cusack, is already up and running and catering for children from three months to five-years-old.

Cheryl, who was born in Bolton, decided to move back north from working in the industry in Westminster, when she saw the opportunity in Burnley.

“I have a young family myself and wanted to be nearer to relatives back in the north. I had been looking at lots of different buildings but the Healey Wood School was perfect.

“It is very light and airy, and in a way I am bringing it back to its original use.”

The nursery was opened by the Mayor of Burnley, Coun. David Heginbotham, and Burnley Football Club mascot Bertie Bee.

It has already links to provide apprenticeships with Burnley College and will also be promoting reading with Burnley Library.

When at full capacity, it will employ 25 staff.
