Young scientist Elliot Gaughan represented his school in an extreme physics competition.

Elliot, of Cliviger, is in Year 10 at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, and was part of a team of four taking part in the three-day competition at Lancaster Royal Grammar School.

The teams built rockets, learned to free fall and attended lectures, as well as producing a demonstration to explain stability and mass.

Elliot and fellow pupils Jack Entwistle, Annie Johnston and Cara Murray came sixth in the competition and won rosettes for their team work, originality and knowledge.
