Burnley children stepped back in time to organise a moving church service to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

Year 6 youngsters from St Mary Magdalene’s RC Primary School read extracts from soldiers’ diaries and created a display of poppies at the commemoration which was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Coun. Andy and Mrs Lorna Tatchell, and the deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire Christine Kirk. The event also featured a selection of songs from the school choir.

Headteacher Mrs Julie Frazer said: “It was absolutely wonderful I was so proud.”
