A BURNLEY teenager has been nominated to carry the Olympic torch.

Sundas Khalid (14) was put forward by her proud mum Mrs Nabila Khalid for the Coke Zone Olympics Torchbearing contest.

A pupil at Sir John Thursby Community College, Sundas is a member of the school cabinet.

She has also been chosen to visit the University of Cambridge and Houses of Parliament.

She said: “I wish to build the name of my community by getting it more involved in nationwide events. Also I hope to become a role model for the young by achieving great GCSEs, and getting a place in a top university.

“I also want to inspire people of all ages to get out and do things they never thought they could do, as this won’t just link me to people of my age but also to people of all ages.”
