STUDENTS from Burnley College donned caps and gowns to celebrate graduating from their degree courses.

Almost 300 students have completed BA (Hons), BSc (Hons), foundation degrees and professional qualifications at the University of Central Lancashire’s Burnley campus this year, with 66% of BA and BSc degree students achieving a first or 2:1.

BA (Hons) education and professional studies students Mary O’Keefe, Sally Bignell, Karen Ashworth and Margaret Levy achieved firsts and now plan to pursue a range of careers in the early years and education sector.

Foundation degree in sports coaching and performance student Ashley Alderson achieved the highest grade of all the sport students studying at one of UCLan’s partner colleges.

Mr Peter Mounsey, head of higher education at Burnley College, said: “We are delighted with the outstanding results our students have once again achieved this year and that these results will now enable so many of them to achieve their professional aspirations.

“A number of students who achieved a degree qualification have progressed from advanced level courses at the college through to full degree programmes with us and we have enjoyed watching their confidence and skills grow.

“We now wish them luck with their careers or further study.”
