Boxer Brian Roche proved a big hit after giving a talk and a short taster session at Sir John Thursby Community College.

The former professional boxer, who runs Roche Boxing Club in Burnley, gave an inspirational talk to around 40 Year Seven to 11 students about how he followed his passion and started his own business.

“Brian talked about his boxing career and how you don’t necessarily need to be the best at your chosen career path but, if you have a passion for it, then it can take you far,” said Awais Javid from Job Junction who organised the talk.

“Brian has a great enthusiasm for his sport and, once he had finished boxing, he set up Roche Boxing Club and he now has more than 100 amateur boxers training there and pursuing their passion.

“It was all connected with enterprise and was aimed at inspiring students and showing that they can follow their dreams and set up their own business if they are dedicated, like Brian.

“Brian also gave a boxing taster session as one of the students attends his gym so that was entertaining as well.”
