Primary school leavers who are due to start at Blessed Trinity RC College this week got a taste of their new surroundings at summer schools.

The 11-year-olds have taken part in lessons including textiles, music, sport, English, maths and more designed to ease the transition between primary and secondary education. Head of Year 7 with transition Lindsay Bleazard said: “It’s all about helping to ease the transition from primary school to secondary.

“It’s familiarising the new pupils with the buildings, the staff and what is expected from them at Blessed Trinity.

“We had more than 200 children attending our summer schools over a fortnight, 120 the first week and 120 the week after. We want every child to have their chance to familiarise themselves with the school. They all seemed to really enjoy it.”

Jessica McCarney (11) added: “It’s really helped me. I know my way around the school now and I can’t wait to start.”
