BURNLEY was struck by a small earthquake on Bank Holiday Monday.

The British Geological Survey recorded the tremor to the north-east of the town at 9-20 p.m.

Experts said the earthquake, which measured just 1.6 on the Richter Scale, started 17km below ground.

They said such a small quake at this depth was highly unlikely to have been felt.
