A man had to be rescued from a river in Burnley in the early hours of this morning.

Police and fire crews were called to the river, close to Dawson Square, at 2-30am where the man, in his 30s, who was heavily intoxicated and carrying a set of ladders, became stranded. It is thought he had dropped his mobile phone, keys and wallet over a wall. When he climbed over to retrieve them he fell into the water. Crews from Burnley fire station used a rope and extension ladders to pull him out of the river.
