Burnley’s first drive-thru chip shop could be given the go-ahead at a meeting tonight.

Plans have been submitted to Burnley Borough Council to demolish the former Dexter Paints building in Trafalgar Street and replace it with a Banny’s Chip Shop.

The proposals, for the heart of the Weavers’ Triangle, were submitted to Burnley Council by Mr Ben Bannister, who runs Banny’s Restaurant at Colne’s Boundary Mill. It would involve demolishing the former shop and creating a new building for takeaway and eat-in dining.

The application is the latest in the On the Banks development in the historic quarter along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It has created debate with many people objecting on social media sites while others stressing the importance of bringing jobs to town.

A decision will be made by Burnley Borough Council’s Development Control Committee tonight.
