THUGS who targeted a blind man in a savage late night attack have been branded “sick” by a Burnley councillor.
The 43-year-old, who is registered blind, was punched in the face by two men demanding money as he walked home from Fulledge Conservative Club.
Detectives are now appealing for help to catch the men behind the incident.
Coun. Karen Heseltine, ward councillor for Rosehill with Burnley Wood, said: “These people are weak scumbags who prey on vulnerable people because they know they wont put up a fight. But we have got to bring the fight to them and show them enough is enough.”
Police say the incident happened around 11-30 p.m. on Wednesday as the man walked home along Holme Street after visiting Cha Cha’s takeaway.
His attackers asked him for money before punching him in the face causing cuts and bruising, and leaving him in shock.
DS Andy Eddleston from Burnley CID said: “This is a horrendous attack against a very vulnerable member of the community. I would appeal for people who have any information to contact the police.”
Anyone with information can contact Det. Constable Andrew Maden 01282 472240 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
