Police are appealing for information after a spate of seven catalytic convertor thefts from Mercedes vans in Pendle.

Catalytic convertors have been stolen from Sprinter and Vito vehicles in May Street in Barrowford, Albert Road and Snell Grove in Colne, and Kelswick Drive, Rowley Street, Town House Road and Trent Road, all in Nelson.

All have been stolen in a period over the weekend and have an estimated value of £1,500 each.

Keith Sandham, Watch Liaison Officer for Pendle, said: “There have been similar thefts in Burnley and Rossendale lately and is a national issue. Please be aware of this if you own such a vehicle. There are web sites that sell locks and alarms, with universal locks in the region of £100, a little more for a vehicle specific model.

“Type ‘catalytic convertor thefts’ into a search engine. It should bring up a selection to have a look at.

“No doubt local dealers and accessory shops will be able to advise on security measures too.”
