CALLOUS thieves broke into a Burnley charity shop and helped themselves to the contents of a luxury Christmas hamper – and the staff’s festive party money.

Staff at the British Heart Foundation Electrical shop in Croft Street arrived for work on Thursday morning to find a gaping hole in the safe and £300 missing.

The money had been saved up by volunteers for their Christmas party.

A luxury hamper and its contents had also been pillaged – the thieves even drank a bottle of champagne and ate chocolates from the hamper while in the store.

Assistant manager Caroline Hilton said: “Whoever did this has had a party at the charity’s expense.

“It is so unfair and the lowest of the low to break in to a charity shop.

“We have been selling raffle tickets for the hamper to customers but the burglars have eaten and drunk everything from it.

“They even jumped up and down on our beds and ran around the shop running amok. Everyone is really upset – whoever did this obviously has no conscience.”

Call police on 425001 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
