A DRIVER from a Burnley taxi firm has been cleared of molesting a lone woman passenger in his cab.

Muhammad Jamshed (33) was found not guilty of sexual assault by a Burnley Crown Court jury, after a three-day trial. The defendant, of Clover Hill Road, Nelson, who had denied the allegation, was discharged from the dock by Judge Jonathan Gibson.

Jamshed had been a cabbie for seven years when the allegation was made in June.

He said what the woman claimed was untrue and that nothing happened. He told police the woman had asked to sit in the front.

He said they had argued over the fare and suggested she had made up the allegations because he had told her he would take her to the police station if she did not pay up.
