POLICE are offering crime prevention tips to Burnley residents at a special event this weekend.

Burnley town centre Neighbourhood Policing Team will be handing out information and advice on staying safe and keeping property secure.

Phone users will be given an opportunity to have their mobiles marked with a specialist UV pen which helps police to reunite the device with its owner if lost or stolen.

Officers will also be handing out a limited number of purse bells during the event at St Peter’s Sports Centre on Saturday between noon and 2 p.m.

PCSO Frank Franco, who organised the event, said: “This is designed to raise awareness of the importance of taking crime prevention tips – such as locking your doors, removing property form display in your cars and security marking your mobile phones.

“The more security measures we can take, the more we can protect ourselves against crimes such as burglary and theft.”
