POLICE have launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack on the home of a Burnley man.

Firefighters were called to White Bull Street after reports of a fire in the hall of the terraced property at 8 p.m. on Monday.

When fire crews arrived the householder was standing outside the front door and the small blaze had all but died out.

Investigations showed the fire may have been started using flammable material.

Watch manager Steve Harrison, of Burnley Fire Station, said: “It was not a major fire but had the capacity to spread. Neighbours were worried there had been a fire next door. Ourselves and the police are treating it as suspicious and investigations are ongoing.”

Police confirmed inquiries were being carried out but no arrests had been made.
