Police are investigating an incident in which two men were assaulted leaving one of them with serious head injuries.
The incident happened between 5-30 and 5-45pm on Saturday in Park Road, Padiham.
It is believed that the 45-year-old victim and his friend had been involved in an altercation with a group of four men.
The victim was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. His friend, a 48 year old man also received head injuries and was taken to hospital.
Three 20-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody.
Det. Insp. Nick Hodgeson, of Burnley Police, said: “This is a nasty attack in which a man has received very serious injuries. I would like to reassure members of the public that this is an isolated attack and that we have arrested three youths in connection with this incident.
“Anyone who may have seen what happened is urged to call police on 101 quoting log number 1141 of the 11th October with any information that could assist us with our enquiries.”
