Police investigate mass street brawl in Burnley

POLICE are appealing for information following a large scale disturbance in Burnley on Thursday night.

Around 9 p.m. a large number of men were involved in a disturbance in Thursby Road which then moved into nearby Queen Victoria Road.

Some of the men were armed with wooden sticks and a knife was also recovered from the scene.

A 31-year old man suffered a cut to the back of his head as well as a cut above his eye and was treated at Burnley General Hospital.

An 18-year-old man was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was treated for a number of cuts and bruises.

Three men aged 18, 31, and 20, and a 16-year-old boy, all from Burnley, were arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and affray.

All four have been released while further inquiries are carried out.

Det. Sgt Nick Hodgeson said: “I would appeal to anybody who was in the area around the time of this incident who may have witnessed it, or the events leading up to it, to contact police.

“I am also be keen to speak with anybody who has any information at all they think could assist with this investigation.”
