AN area of Burnley persistently targeted by arsonists has again seen another house set alight.

The latest fire, to a front bedroom of an empty house in Ford Street, off Colne Road, occurred at 8-40pm on Wednesday.

It follows an incident in the run-up to Bonfire Night when yobs attacked a disabled man’s house in Ford Street with fireworks.

There was also another fire at an empty house in the same street on October 27th.

Watch manager Neil Mark said of the latest incident: “It appears this fire was started deliberately. “Luckily, there was a smoke alarm in the house which was heard by neighbours and alerted them to the fire. When firefighters arrived the back door was open and a mattress in the front bedroom upstairs was on fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel and a ventilation unit to extinguish the fire and cleared the upstairs of smoke.”

Police are investigating the fire. Anyone with information can call police on 425001 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
