POLICE are hunting a suspected arsonist after a caravan was torched outside a Burnley house this morning.

Fire crews were called to the property in Marsden Road after neighbours raised the alarm at 4-30 a.m.

The mobile home was well ablaze and firefighters were forced to enter to make sure gas cylinders inside did not blow up.

Watch manager Dominic Fallow, of Burnley Fire Station, said: “The motor home was parked in the driveway and when we got there it was fully alight. The fire just ripped through it. We had to go in with breathing apparatus. There were gas cylinders inside the caravan. We had to put the fire out with foam and then remove the gas cylinders.”

The cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious and an investigation has now been launched by police.

The caravan was completely destroyed in the blaze and an adjacent garage was also partly damaged.
