Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was seriously injured in a road accident.

Emergency crews were called to Manchester Road, Burnley, at around 10-30am yesterday a Peugeot 306, being driven towards Rawtenstall, collided with a parked Vauxhall Corsa at the junction with Rosemount Avenue.

The driver of the Peugeot, a man in his late 70’s received serious head injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

The parked car, a Vauxhall Corsa which was unattended at the time, was pushed into the junction and the road was closed for three hours while an investigation was carried out.

Sgt Finn Quainton, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “The circumstances around exactly why the collision occurred are still unclear at this stage and so I am very keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

“If anyone did witness what happened or saw the Peugeot travelling towards the scene to come forward and contact us if they have not done so already.”
