Police are now urging anybody with information about the incident to contact them, specifically a woman officers believe witnessed the collision and stopped at the scene.

The woman, who gave her name as "Natalie", was with a child at the time and left her phone number with officers but police have been unable to make contact with her.

PS Claire Pearson, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a serious collision which has left a woman in hospital and we are working extremely hard to piece together what happened.

“We believe a woman, who gave her name as ‘Natalie’, stopped at the scene after witnessing what happened and we are now keen to trace her to get her account of the incident.
