A Padiham man with a college computer qualification has been jailed after he claimed he did not know how 78 indecent images of children appeared on his computer.

Jamie Pennington (23) was sentenced at Burnley Crown Court where, despite pleading guilty, still maintained his innocence.

Judge Beverly Lunt said she had no option but to jail Pennington for 20 weeks who she said was “in complete denial.”

Judge Lunt had heard how police had discovered 57 level one images, 10 level two images, three level three images and eight level four images of children on two computers at Pennington’s home in Stockbridge Road.

Judge Lunt said: “The level four images are particularly nasty. They are very disturbing.

“It’s of great concern to me that you are in total denial. You say you only pleaded guilty because the images were found on your computer, and that you do not know how they got there.

“You have completed a two year college course in computer programming so I find your excuse very implausible.”

Pennington, a labourer at a Burnley skip company, claimed the images must have found their way onto his computers accidentally.

He was tracked down after police were told he had uploaded an image to a Microsoft Sky Drive via an IP address.

He was arrested in February 2012 and sent to the crown court for sentencing by Burnley magistrates.
