A YOUNG mother has pleaded guilty at Burnley Magistrates’ Court to neglecting her two-year-old daughter.
The 21-year-old admitted the charge of child neglect by exposing the child to potential danger and injury and poor condition of housing.
The court heard that the defendant’s home was found to be in a poor habitable condition when letting agents visited her rented property.
The police became involved and the child had to be taken to hospital and as a result was put into foster care. The defendant, from Burnley, was interviewed by police.
Mr John Beggs (prosecuting) said: “She accepted that she had problems at that particular time and things were getting on top of her and reported they she lived on her own.
“The child was sometimes visited by the father.”
He added: “The defendant has never been before the courts previously.”
The court heard that social services were still heavily involved with the case and care proceedings were continuing.
The mother was granted unconditional bail until her sentence date on March 27th.
