Detectives are appealing for information after masked men broke into a house in Burnley while a teenage girl slept upstairs.
The terrifying incident took place at around 3-55am on Monday when four broke into the house in Herbert Street through the front door.
Two of the offenders remained outside the house while the other two entered.
Once inside, one of the offenders brandished a knife at the occupant, a 49-year-old man, who was sleeping downstairs. The second offender made his way upstairs, where a 13-year-old girl was also sleeping, before shouting that they had the wrong address. All four offenders then fled the address.
One of the offenders who went inside the house was wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and gloves. The second man was wearing black jogging pants, a light blue jacket and a ski mask.
Det. Sgt Zoe Russo of Burnley CID said: “The occupants of the address were understandably left shaken and upset by this incident. We believe that the wrong address was targeted and at this stage the intended address and their motive is unknown.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident to contact us.”
