A BURNLEY man was left with facial injuries after he was brutally attacked and robbed in his own home.
The incident happened around 3-40 a.m. on Sunday, July 10th, at a property in Todmorden Road.
Mr John Cheetham (60) was asleep on the sofa when he woke to find a man standing over him.
In the unprovoked assault, the attacker punched Mr Cheetham to the face knocking him unconscious and causing him facial injuries.
Police have released photographs of his injuries in the hope that people will come forward with information.
After knocking Mr Cheetham unconscious, the offender unplugged electrical items and stole the 32in. Toshiba television set and a Sony Playstation 3.
Mr Cheetham required hospital treatment for cuts and bruising and as well as shock, he also experienced breathing difficulties.
DC Kaz Garda, from Burnley CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who has information about this incident to come forward and contact police. This was a nasty attack on a vulnerable member of the community. The person responsible must be caught and brought to justice.
“I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw a man walking down the street with a television set or maybe a local taxi driver in the area might have seen something suspicious.”
Mr Cheetham added: “I have lived at this address for more than 20 years but now I am too scared to leave the house and I feel like a prisoner in my own home. I need to go to hospital to be treated and I am seriously thinking of moving home.”
