Man arrested in connection with “vicious” Burnley sex attack

POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a “vicious” sex attack which happened near Burnley town centre.

A 30-year-old man was arrested by police in Blackpool on suspicion of indecent assault. He was due to be questioned by detectives in Burnley.

A manhunt had been launched after a 47-year-old woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault near the Inn on the Wharf last Thursday.

The victim, who is from Liverpool, had been out drinking with small a group of friends at the Inn at the Wharf.

After leaving alone she was subjected to a serious sexual assault between 8-30pm and 9-30pm. Her handbag containing her HTC mobile phone was stolen, along with cash and some personal items.

Detective Inspector Marie Haworth from Burnley CID said: “This is a serious offence which has understandably left the victim traumatised.”
