A MAN has appeared in court charged in connection to a huge fire that engulfed a Burnley Spar store.
Ben Young (19) of Thorn Street, Burnley, spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on a charge of arson with intent to endanger life.
Mr Andrew Robinson (prosecuting) said that around £1m. of damage was caused to the Spar shop in Padiham Road when it caught fire around 10-30 pm on Sunday.
He added that two employees had just left the store and were putting the shutters up when the fire started.
No plea was entered and Young was remanded in custody to appear at Burnley Crown Court on Monday, January 28th.
