A 63-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack on the home of a Burnley woman at the weekend.
The woman, believed to be in her 50s, had to be rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out at the property in Burnley Road, Cliviger.
She was found hanging out of an upstairs window at 5-30 a.m. on Saturday but fire crews managed to pluck her to safety unharmed.
Police and fire investigators believe the fire was started deliberately and confirmed they had taken a local man in for questioning. The man has since been bailed pending further inquiries.
Fire crews received a 999 call saying a woman was trapped in the burning terraced house near the Queens Hotel in the early hours of Saturday. The woman was hanging out of an upstairs bedroom window at the front of the property which was billowing with smoke.
Firefighters had to smash through the front door to get to the stricken woman who was plucked to safety. She was not injured but paramedics took her to the Royal Blackburn Hospital as a precaution.
A spokesman said the fire is believed to have started on the stairs of the property but would not say what caused the blaze.
