A robber who brandished two knives at terrified shop workers before escaping with hundreds of pounds is being hunted by police.

The robbery took place at the Spar, in Manchester Road, as it was closing around 10pm on Thursday, December 5th.

The man walked through the front door brandishing two knives and threatened the two staff members on duty.

They handed him several hundred pounds in cash from the till and he then fled down Manchester Road towards Burnley town centre.

DC Dave Greenwood from Pennine CID said: “We believe the man responsible was loitering outside the shop for up to two hours before committing the robbery so although there were no customers in the shop at the time of the offence I would like to speak with anyone that thinks they may have seen the man pictured in the CCTV to come forward.

“Fortunately nobody was hurt but this is clearly a serious offence and an investigation is under way to catch the man responsible. “Anyone with any information that could assist should contact me on 101.”

The robber is white, of large build and was wearing a black puffer style body warmer with his hood up and face covered.
