POLICE in Padiham have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after inappropriate comments and gestures were made to a schoolgirl.

Around 2-20 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21st, a 12-year-old girl went into the One Stop Shop in Burnley Road.

While she was in the shop she became aware of a man watching her.

She left the store and began to walk along Burnley Road but, as she did, a man pulled up beside her in a white van and made inappropriate comments and gestures towards her before pulling over, getting out of the van and urinating in the street.

DC Michael Burrett, of Burnley CID, said, “Although she was unharmed, this was distressing experience for the young girl involved and I am keen to speak to this man.

“I would like to speak with anyone who might recognise the description of the man and I would also urge anyone that might have experienced any similarly suspicious activity to come forward and contact us.”

The man is white, in his twenties, of medium build and between 5ft. 4in. and 5ft. 6in. tall.

He is also thought to have a number of tattoos around his neck. At the time he was wearing a dark woollen hat, a black hooded top and jeans.

He was driving a white, Renault Kangoo van which was manufactured between 2005 and 2008.

DC Burrett added: “Although this happened a number of months ago, I hope that someone might recognise the descriptions of either the man or the vehicle which might jog their memories and urge them to come forward.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
