Heartless thieves have stolen a charity box full of £1 coins from a doctor’s surgery in Burnley.
The thieves struck this lunchtime (Thursday) at the Yorkshire Street Medical Centre when the red collecting box was cut from its safety ties and taken.
Practice Manager Michelle Hartley said they believed someone distracted the receptionist on duty while his accomplice cut the security tags from the box. She said it was almost full with coins that people put in to “loan” reading books from the surgery and was ready to be handed over to the hospice. “We have had some petty thefts from the consulting rooms before today but this is really below the belt,” she said. Police have been informed.
