THE devastated family of a Burnley man subjected to a brutal assault and left for dead in the street has made an emotional plea for the attacker to be caught.
Dad-of-four Mr Azeem Nawaz has been in an induced coma fighting for his life since the incident, in March Street, Stoneyholme, on Saturday, March 9th, during which he suffered serious head injuries.
Mr Nawaz, a builder, was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but has since been transferred to Royal Preston Hospital where his condition is described as potentially life-threatening.
A reward of up to £3,000 is now being offered for information about the attack and his family have released this shocking photograph of him in hospital in the hope that someone may come forward.
Detectives believe he may have been in March Street to meet someone connected with his trade.
Det. Supt Paul Withers, from Lancashire Constabulary’s force major investigation team, said: “We believe that Mr Nawaz was assaulted, but what we don’t know at this stage is why he was in the area at the time and exactly what has happened. “Mr Nawaz’s wife and children are understandably distraught and his family have allowed us to release the picture of him in hospital in the hope it will prompt someone to come forward with information.
“It may be that Mr Nawaz has been involved in an altercation with someone and that person may not have intended to cause him such serious harm. If this person is you I would urge you to do the right thing and contact the police.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log number 1338 of Saturday, March 9th, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
