Burnley magistrates were told how Stuart Jack Andrews (47) stole two tins of dog food, a bag of dog biscuits and two Pot Noodles, together worth £5 from Poundworld in the town.

Andrews, of Raglan Road, Burnley, admitted theft on June 28th. The defendant was fined £40 and told to pay a £30 victim surcharge.

Mark Williams (defending) said Andrews had a terrible record going back over the years but it had slowed down considerably, certainly over the last two years or so. He remained free of drugs.

The solicitor added: “It is quite obvious when you speak to him that he is no longer in the condition that he used to be in.”

Mr Williams said Andrews was on jobseekers’ allowance.
