Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to as they continue to investigate a sexual assault on an eight-year-old girl in Padiham.
The incident happened at around noon on Thursday, January 2nd, after it was reported to police that the girl, who is from the local area, was approached by a man in Pendle Street and taken a short distance to a footbridge over the river which connects Canning Street with Thompson Street where she was sexually assaulted.
The victim was not physically injured but was understandably distressed and is being supported by specially trained officers.
Extra patrols are in the local area a week on from the offence to reassure the local community.
Two men, a 26-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from the local area, were arrested earlier this week but have been eliminated from the inquiry.
Det. Insp. Jim Elston, of Pennine CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who recognises the male depicted on the images or indeed that person himself to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency
“I would like to reassure people that offences like this are very rare.
