Burnley ‘murder’ probe - Dead man named

A MAN found dead at a house in Reed Street Burnley has been named.

An investigation was launched after the body of 51-year-old Brendan Lally, of Springfield Bank, Burnley, was found on Wednesday.

At 11-20pm officers attended the address following a report of an unconscious man at the premises. Upon arrival they found the man at the bottom of the stairs and despite the efforts of both police and paramedics he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is currently being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem examination revealed he died from head and neck injuries.

Five people – two women aged 20 and 49 and three men aged 42, 45 and 48, all from Burnley, were arrested on suspicion of murder. The 20-year-old woman and men aged 45 and 48 have now been released without charge.

A woman aged 49 and a man aged 42, both from Burnley, remain in police custody being questioned on suspicion of murder.
