A MAN was left with head injuries after a “nasty” attack in a Burnley park.
The 26-year-old victim was attacked from behind and subjected to a vicious assault as he walked through Bank Hall Park off Queen Victoria Road between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday morning.
The man needed hospital treatment and police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and help catch the people responsible.
It is thought the victim spoke with two men who had a large dog at around 12-30 a.m. and then with a man and a woman later on. Police are urging those people to come forward as they may have seen what happened.
Detective Constable Melissa Chadwick from Burnley CID said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have witnessed something to come forward and contact the police.
“This appears to be an unprovoked, nasty assault that has left the victim with a head injury and needing hospital treatment. He has been left shaken following the attack and the people responsible need to be caught.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Burnley CID on 01282 472242 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
