A MAN who spent more than two years in a prison cell after being found guilty of child sex offences has been given his freedom by the country’s top judges.

Ashley Marcus Close (38) walked from the Court of Appeal a free man after his convictions were quashed.

He was jailed for five years in February 2009 at Burnley Crown Court after a jury found him guilty of sexual activity in the presence of a child and two counts of sexual activity with a child.

But Mr Close, of Wycoller Avenue, Burnley, always denied wrongdoing and was vindicated when three appeal judges overturned his “unsafe” convictions.
