A 63-year-old Burnley man has been jailed for 18 years after pleading guilty to a number of rapes and other sexual offences.
Keith Goodwin, of Briercliffe Road, was sentenced at Burnley Crown Court for the offences on three female victims over a 20-year period between 1977 and 1997. Goodwin had pleaded guilty to offences against one woman and had been due to stand trial for charges against two others before also pleading guilty to those.
During sentencing, Judge Beverly Lunt said to Goodwin that he had not been a man of good character for 35 years yet he had presented that image to the world. Judge Lunt added that Goodwin’s actions did not merit any reduction in length of sentence because he had enjoyed “years of liberty he was not entitled to.” Sexual offences against a fourth victim will lie on file. Judge Lunt added Goodwin showed a “total lack of any morality.”
