Firefighters were called out to tackle a string of nuisance fires in Burnley over night.

Fire crews were first called out to a rubbish fire in Albert Street at 8-20pm. Another pile of blazing rubbish was reported in Raglan Road was dealt with just 30 minutes later.

A fire in a skip was reported in Standish Street at 11-15pm and another fire was reported in Moseley Road at 11-30pm.

Two hours later fire crews dealt with a blaze at the rear of Clegg Street in Daneshouse. Then rubbish was torched in a back yard in Angle Street which spread to a house at 6-30am this morning.

Acting watch manager Dave Robinson, of Burnley Fire Station, said: “Over the night there have been a number of incidents involving loose rubbish or skips. These incidents are a drain on resources and has the potential for appliances to be unavailable if a more serious incident occurs.

“Avoid leaving loose rubbish in back yards and if using a skip inform the company as soon as it is ready for removal reducing the opportunity for fires to be started.”
