TWO Burnley Football Club players have appeared in court on separate charges of drink driving and being involved in a nightclub scuffle.

Defender Clarke Carlisle, who recently joined Preston on loan, appeared at Bury Magistrates’ Court on August 8th accused of driving his Audi Q7 while over the drink-drive limit. He was stopped in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, on July 29th.

Carlisle (31), of Ripponden, West Yorkshire, who is chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association, denied the charge and is to face trial before magistrates on October 18th.

Meanwhile Clarets’ forward Alex Macdonald admitted breach of the peace when he appeared before Inverness Sheriff Court in Scotland on Wednesday.

The Scotland Under-21 international, of Alconbury Close, Warrington, admitted struggling and fighting with another man outside an Inverness nightspot. He was ordered to be of good behaviour.
