Burnley baby death – parents to face crown court trial

THE PARENTS of a four-month old baby boy who died at his home in Burnley last year are set to face trial today.

Kian McMillan died following an incident with a television at his Scarlett Street home on December 6th, 2011.

Natalie McMillan (25) faces charges of manslaughter by gross negligence and child cruelty.

Edward Hanratty (41) has been charged with child cruelty.

The pair are set to face trial at Preston Crown Court later this morning. The trial is expected to last two weeks.

The baby had been taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital suffering from serious head injuries on December 5th. He was transferred to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where he died the following day.

An inquest into the death of the four-month-old found that he had died from head injuries.
