AN audacious attempt was made to break into a Burnley bank by knocking through a wall from a next door opticians.
The burglars broke into Eyesight Opticians in Briercliffe Road around 5am on Sunday and then tore wall displays off before knocking part of a brick wall down to get through to the Santander branch next door.
Police said nothing was stolen from either the opticians or the bank but £15,000 damage was caused in total. It is thought sledge hammers were used to break through.
