A 65-year-old man was punched in the face during a violent robbery on the doorstep of his Brierfield home.

The victim had just arrived home after visiting a local shop when he answered a knock at the door of his Timber Street home on Saturday evening.

He was confronted by a man and tried to shut the door but as he did the offender forced his way into the property.

The homeowner was punched in the face by the raider who was demanding money in the attack which happened at 7-30pm.

He then took a wallet from the victim’s jacket pocket and left the house.

DC Haydn Sibley, of Pennine CID, said: “This is a horrific crime in which a man has been targeted in his own home. “Fortunately, he was not seriously injured but he was clearly left very shaken by his ordeal and so I would urge anybody that saw anything suspicious in the area on Saturday evening, particularly around the Colne Road area to contact us as soon as possible.”

The offender is described as Asian, around 5ft 10in., of medium build, and he was wearing dark coloured hooded top with the hood up, dark coloured trousers and black gloves.

A 36-year-old man from Brierfield has been arrested in connection with the offence and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
