A father-of-one found hanged in a wooded area next to Parkhill Business Centre has been named.

Thomas Irwin (27), of St Matthew Street, was found after police were called to land in between the centre and St Joseph’s Parkhill School, Padiham Road, at 4-10pm on Monday.

Mr Irwin, who was known to friends as Tommy, leaves behind a young daughter, Lacey.

His funeral cortege will leave his parents’ home on Wednesday at 3-20pm for a service and cremation at Burnley Crematorium at 3-40pm.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr Walid Salman who is now awaiting the results of toxicology tests. The inquest has been opened and adjourned until January 20th.

Tributes have been left on Facebook including one from Lynda Atkinson who said: “Rip. Thoughts for his family and friends. Poor man must have been in a very dark place so sad.”

Ian Clough said: “Rest in peace tommy lad. U was ace, always made everyone laugh.”
