Ten taxi drivers are to be prosecuted after being reported for illegal activity.
The drivers were arrested as part of a crackdown by Burnley Borough Council and the police.
Eight of the 10 were licensed by Burnley and Pendle Councils and the other two were Hackney carriage drivers.
They were reported for offences including illegally plying for hire in places that are not recognised taxi ranks, accepting fares that has not been booked through a licensed operator, not wearing their badges, having invalid insurance and failing to engage fare meters.
Illegally plying for hire invalidates a taxi’s insurance, which leaves passengers unprotected in the event of an accident.
Coun. Anne Kelly, chairman of Burnley Borough Council’s Licensing Committee, said: “We will not allow the safety of the travelling public to be compromised by rogue drivers and we will continue to take appropriate enforcement action when necessary and to support those taxi drivers who operate within the law.”
