PARISH COUNCIL – The latest parish council meeting was attended by: Couns Heginbotham, E. Heys, M. Heys, Whittle, Hines, Riley and Smith as well as Coun. Towneley and County Coun. Brindle.
Residents raised the issue of land behind Mount Zion Church and Coun. Heys said the land is leased from the borough council for the use of everyone in the village. Using some of the land as allotments was not feasible as the rents would be too high, the lease too short and the ground is unsuitable because of previous mining. The council reitterated its decision to keep it as a park.
In the monthly police report, there were 32 incidents, of which nine were crimes. Cannabis root balls were found in Long Causeway and reported to the police. Councillors said speed enforcement on the A646 is ineffectual as it was carried out for one hour on a Sunday. Penalty notices are to be issued to motorists who park outside the school.
The chairman is putting his allowance towards tree planting in the area after county council funding was stopped. Attention was drawn to the work carried out on paths for the Ramblers’ Assocaition by the late Jack Wilson. The next parish council meeting is at 7 p.m. on Friday in the village hall.
